Janna Roelfina Elsina Massen

MASSEN, JANNA (nee Marissen)  Oct 2, 1931- Feb 20, 2022
Predeceased by her beloved husband Herman and by 6 brothers and sisters.
On Sunday February 20th, 2022, Janna Massen (nee Marissen) passed away in her home surrounded by her loving family on her own terms at 90 years of age.
Janna was born October 2nd 1931 in the Netherlands to Roelof and Elsina Marissen and was one of seven children.
Janna immigrated to Canada in 1952 following her soon to be husband Herman Massen whom paid for her passage. She and her husband paved the way to Canada for some of her other siblings.  Eventually, her two sisters and a brother followed her to Canada with their respective children. Her cherished sister in law Grace Marissen was a much loved part of her life, and is the last remaining relative that moved from the Netherlands to Canada.
Janna lived a long and full life. She overcame many challenges, facing them with enthusiasm, passion, strength and a deep faith in Christ. Janna was “my everything” to her late husband Herman and was deeply loved by her four children.
There was always a hot cup of tea for her many visitors and wonderful baked goods.  Janna was an accomplished seamstress, cook, homemaker and  handy woman.  She loved to camp, discuss life, renovate, travel and spend time with family and friends. She gave sage advice, made delicious meals and loved to play cards with her grandchildren. Over the years, there have been many holiday meals served along with meaningful conversations around the table, where her loved ones gathered.
Janna had many close relationships with family and friends. She was always willing to be kind, tough, support others in their needs, give encouragement and love to all who came to see her.  She always showed her appreciation for everything everybody did. Janna always felt God’s blessings and presence as she walked with and thanked him through out her journey.
Life can be filled with suffering, but we are not called to walk alone. Janna was an excellent example of a life well lived in the light of Christ’s love.  Jesus was her foundation as she led her family in faith.
Janna will be lovingly remembered by her children Paul, Randy and his wife Lise, John  and his wife Sandy, as well as her daughter Sharon and her husband Andy.
Grandchildren: Walter, Rachel, Scott, Laura, Matthew, Sarah, Adam, Alex and Amber as well as great grandchildren Griffin, Silas, Liana, Liam, Johnny and Clara.
Nieces and Nephews: Alice, Marian, Elsina, Diana, Marian (Harshnize), Ruth and Else (late, Ormstrom), David, Johan, Bill and Ralph.
