James Donald Searle

SEARLE, James Donald L.L.B. U.W.O. 1974 - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of James D. Searle on his 78th birthday, February 11, 2019 at VON Sakura House in Woodstock, Ontario. Known as "Jim" to friends and family and as "Dad/Grandad" to his adoring children and grandchildren, he passed away peacefully after bravely enduring a long period of illness. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife Betty with whom he would celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary this year. He was and forever shall remain a hero to his three children, Elliot (Jacquie), Stephanie (Sam) and Erica (Tim), and to his eight cherished grandchildren, Solomon and Arlo Searle, Noah, Gabriel, Hannah and Sophia Eldiriny; and Emily and Oliver Lomax. Jim was born on February 11th, 1941 to Frank and Marjorie Searle in Woodstock, spending his formative years here and later in Toronto, returning to Woodstock in 1976 to raise his young family and establish his law practice. Jim conducted his legal career with the same traits he exhibited in every area of his life: integrity, honesty, fierce intelligence, empathy, moral courage and a tireless work ethic. He set a high moral standard for his children to follow. He was well-known for his sharp wit, always ready with a well-timed retort, to the occasional embarrassment of his ever-loving wife Betty. His dry sense of humour lives on in his children to the tolerance of their own families. Friends are invited to meet with the family at the Brock and Visser Funeral Home, 845Devonshire Ave., Woodstock (519-539-0004) on Monday, February 18th, 2019 from 10:00 am - 11:00 am where the memorial service will be held in the chapel at 11:00 am, with Pastor Steve Boctor officiating.
