James Robert Grant Dechert

July 1, 1940 — August 24, 2024

It is with great sorrow we announce the passing of Jim Dechert.

He was the son of Edgar and Emma Dechert of Millbank.

Jim was predeceased by wife Rose (Stone), wife Gabrielle (McKelvey), son Robert Anthony Dechert, sister Marilyn Flynn, and sister Jean Kleinknecht

He was a cherished and respected father to Bill Dechert (Joan) of Guelph, Steve Dechert (Donna) of Plattsville, grandfather to Amanda Dechert, Matthew Dechert, and Jade Dechert, and Great Grandfather to Max and Isaiah.

Jim will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by his second family: Andy Young (Sarah) of Newmarket, Graham Young (Karen) of Crystal Beach, Carrissa McCaw (Brian) of Lakefield, and Randy Young (Debra) of Bancroft and grandchildren Bradley, Michael and Jeffrey McCaw, and Emily and Jonathon Young.

Also survived by his brothers: Keith (Bea) of Elmira, Ken (Betty, predeceased) of Stratford, and Doug (Linda) of Listowel, and brother-in-law Frank Kleinknecht.

Jim wore many hats in his long life. He was a carpenter for many years, working throughout Southern Ontario, including at the University of Guelph. He also did factory work and drove a forklift.

He could be a bit shy, but he was also a social animal. He loved family, campouts, darts, golf, and for a time, fishing.

He was a big fan of racing, especially Nascar.

Jim was a proud Canadian and had an avid interest in our history and our military.

Cremation has taken place.  A private interment service has been arranged by the family at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Guelph.

There will be a celebration of life for family and friends to gather together to share remembrances at Brombal Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, 1 Delhi St., Guelph, on Saturday, Sept. 7 beginning at 1pm.  In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Canadian Cancer Society.
