Hoekstra Jacob (Jake) - Following a lengthy illness, Jake Hoekstra of Woodstock passed away peacefully at the London Health Sciences Centre Victoria Campus March 8, 2010. Loving husband of Hendrika (nee Vanspronsen) for nearly 44 years (March 12). Loved father of Linda Coulson (Paul Brunt) and Catherine (Kevin) Kitching. Special grandpa of Tyler and Tara-Lynn, Katlin and Collin. Survived by brothers and their wives Ed (Gwen), Durk (Gerda), Abe (Linda), Joe (Dianne). Sisters-in-law Sharon Hoekstra, Coby (John) Keizer, Mary (Gary) Graaskamp), Gerda (Durk) Hoekstra and Edith (Barry) Butt. Son-in-law of Maria Vanspronsen. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Joe Hoekstra (1958) and Renske Hoekstra - Bakker (1999), sister Mitzi Iedema (1991), brothers-in-law Bill Iedema (1997), Abe Vanspronsen (2003), and father-in-law Gerrit Vanspronsen (2002), and his brother Jim (2008) who gave him the gift of life in 1980, a kidney which lasted for 27 years. Jake was born May 6th, 1942 in Schiermonnikoog, Friesland (Netherlands) and immigrated to Canada with his family in 1952. He worked at Kelsey-Hayes for nearly 36 years until health reasons forced him to retire in 2002. Jake was an avid volunteer with Camp Shalom, attended Emmanuel Reformed Church for many years and took special interest in visiting friends and family and anyone who needed a listening ear at their home or in the hospital. He will be sadly missed by everyone who knew him. Friends may call at the Longworth Funeral Home 845 Devonshire Ave., Woodstock 519-539-0004 on Friday March 12, 2010 from 2-4 and 7-9pm. The complete funeral service will be held at Emmanuel Reformed Church, 170 Clarke Street, Woodstock on March 13, 2010 at 2:00 pm. Rev. Bram Blaak officiating.
