Iva Leona (Zehr) Smith

Iva Leona Smith, a cherished soul, affectionately known as Iva passed away peacefully on January 17, 2024, in her 87th year in Woodstock, surrounded by the love of her family. Born on December 23, 1937, in South East Hope Township, Iva's journey through life was one marked by joy, dedication, and the warmth of her generous spirit.

Iva was the beloved wife of the late Ross Smith, who predeceased her in 2011; their marriage was a testament to enduring love. Together, they built a family and a legacy that became their pride and joy through their children, Sherri (David) Johns and Dwayne (Belinda) Smith. Iva's joy was multiplied with the birth of each of her grandchildren: Greg (Ellie), Trevor (Sissi), Hunter, and Teagan. Survived by her brother Ken (Karen) Zehr and brother-in-law Verne (Joan) Smith. She was a cherished aunt to her many nieces and nephews, a revered figure among her Chieftain neighbours, and a devoted member of her supportive church family. Iva’s journey continues as she is now reunited with her parents, her brothers and sisters.

An avid gardener, Iva's flowers and vegetables were a testament to her patience and nurturing touch. Her kitchen was a hub of warmth, where the aromas of her cooking and baking filled the air and drew the family together. Iva's hands were rarely still, as she crafted beautiful quilts with her sisters. Iva's life was a tapestry of love, service, faith and community. Her legacy is etched in the lives she touched and the beauty she created. She will be remembered fondly for her kindness, her infectious smile, and her ability to make everyone around her feel loved. Iva's memory will forever bloom in the gardens she tended, in the recipes she passed down, and in the hearts of those who were privileged to know her.

Family and friends will be received at Brock & Visser Funeral Home, 845 Devonshire Ave, Woodstock (519-539-0004) on Friday, January 26, 2024 from 2pm-4pm and 6pm-8pm. A memorial service to honour Iva will be held at the Innerkip Presbyterian Church (64 Blandford St, Innerkip) on Saturday, January 27, 2024 at 11am. She will be laid to rest with her beloved husband Ross at the Innerkip Cemetery at a later date.
