Irene Sophrona (Mckenzie) Davidson

Irene S. Davidson (nee McKenzie) - Peacefully at the Woodstock General Hospital on Monday January 26, 2009 in her 89th year, the former Irene Sophrona McKenzie. Beloved and devoted wife for 52 years of H. Murray Davidson of Woodstock. Dear sister of Marion Lougheed and Bert McKenzie, both of Owen Sound. Cherished aunt of many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents Duncan and Sephrona (Nuttall) McKenzie; sisters Jean Ribey, Catherine Nelson and Edith McGillivray and brothers D.J., Allan and Donald McKenzie.Irene was born in Bruce Township. She graduated from Stratford Normal School and taught in Bruce County schools from 1939 to 1944 and in St. Catharines for 12 years during which she spent two years on an exchange in British Columbia. Throughout more than 50 years in Woodstock, Irene was active in the UCW at Chalmers United Church, the Horticultural Society and the Curling Club. She enjoyed working in the garden and always looked forward to the weekly bridge games with friends. Irene's warm, welcoming personality and her natural empathy for others made her an ideal friend to many with whom she remained in contact until her recent illness. Friends will be received for one hour prior to the funeral service which will be held in the Chapel of the Longworth Funeral Home, 845 Devonshire Avenue, Woodstock on Saturday, January 31, 2009 at 2:00 pm. Interment in the Presbyterian Cemetery, Woodstock will take place at a later date.
