CARTER, Irene Rose - It is with great sadness the family announce the passing of Irene Carter of Sloane St., Woodstock on Tuesday May 20, 2003. Loved wife of 57 years of Cliff, mum of Susan Hampson and her husband Joe of Oxford Centre and Bruce Carter and his wife Susan of London. Beloved grandmother of Johanna Hampson of Norwich, Andrew Hampson of Guelph and Harrison Carter of London. Survived by a brother Henry Cox and special nephew Harold Cox, predeceased by brothers Albert and Fred and sisters Elsie and Maude all of England. Irene was born in Ewshott, England where she met and married Cliff who was convalescing from wounds received in WWII combat. As a War Bride, Irene traveled to Wingham, Ontario and then to Woodstock where she was an active member of the "Overseas Club". Irene was employed as an R.N.A. at the Oxford Regional Centre for over 25 years at which time she was a supportive wife to Cliff as he operated Carters Cleaners. Irene then retired to share many warm and happy winters with Cliff in Tuscon, Arizona. Family was the most important aspect of Irene's life and she continually supported them in their education and career endeavors and was the "proudest" grandma ever. Visitation will be held at the R.D. Longworth Funeral Home, 845 Devonshire Ave., Woodstock, 539-0004, Thursday 2- 4 and 7-9 pm. The funeral celebration of Irene's life will be held at the Christ Church, Oxford Centre on Friday at 11:00 am with Reverend Marian Haggerty officiating. Interment in the Oxford Centre Anglican Cemetery. Contributions to Christ Church Anglican, Oxford Centre or Woodstock General Hospital Building Fund would be appreciated.
