G. Ross Gerrie

March 25, 1952 — March 16, 2021

Glen “Ross” Gerrie

Passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 16, 2021 in his 69th year at the Woodstock Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer and with family at his side.

Ross was predeceased by his parents, George and Helen Gerrie, who raised him on a Century farm in North Oxford prior to his family moving to Woodstock. He is survived by his partner Tammy Priddle, his son Chad Gerrie and stepsons Benjamin Coates and Damian MacKinnon.

Ross was employed as a millwright at TRW (Kelsey-Hayes) for forty-four years before retiring in 2017. Throughout all of his working and retirement years Ross was always passionate about the well-being of the community and people in general. He was a long time in-plant union representative in his workplace, President of Unifor Local 636 for twenty-seven years, a Board Member of the Woodstock Non-Profit Housing Corporation and a past Woodstock City Councillor. As an active member of the community Ross also devoted much of his energy to numerous other organizations and committees that included, among others, the United Way, the Victims Assistance Services of Oxford County, the Special Olympics, Domestic Abuse Services of Oxford, the Woodstock Library Board and the Fanshawe College Advisory Committee. In his spare time Ross enjoyed attending NASCAR races, cooking and travelling.

Ross’s family would like to thank Dr. G. Mosey and his team at the Woodstock General Hospital as well as all the doctors, nurses and staff in Woodstock and at the London Health Sciences Centre, Victoria Hospital for the compassionate care and attention they provided to him. Special thanks also to his good friends Kim Adams and John Dobbyn for their kindness and support during Ross’s illness.

Cremation has taken place and a private family interment service will be held at the Ingersoll Rural Cemetery.

A Celebration of Life is planned for the late spring or early summer of 2021 when circumstances permit. If desired, contributions to the Canadian Cancer Society, the Woodstock Hospital Foundation, the Special Olympics or a charity of your choice would be appreciated and may be arranged through the Brock and Visser Funeral Home, Woodstock, at (519) 539-0004.  Personal condolences may be viewed and shared online at www.brockandvisser.com.
