Greg James Snyder

SNYDER- Gregory James Snyder, in his 21st year, much loved son of Pete and Marcia Snyder, loving brother to his devoted sister Melissa, passed away Saturday, April 25, 2009 following a protracted and courageous battle with cancer. Grandson of Anne Hutchinson and the late James F. Hutchinson, Thelma Snyder, Austin and Vonnie Snyder. Sadly missed by many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Greg was a graduate of St. Mary's Catholic High School where he enjoyed playing on the hockey team, participating in United Nations debates, reach for the top, and engaging in student life. He was in his third year of studies at the University of Western Ontario, majoring in Health Sciences and Economics and developing a keen interest in epidemiology. Greg was very active in student politics at Western and was the elected student member of the University Senate representing Health Sciences and School of Medicine students for the 2008-2009 school year. Greg worked for the City of Woodstock at Southside Aquatic Centre and Lion's Pool, where he touched the lives of many young swimmers. Earlier in his work life, Greg enjoyed refereeing hockey for the Woodstock Minor Hockey Association and the Woodstock Wildcats Girls Hockey Association. Greg's sharp intellect, quick wit, and ready smile will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by all who knew him. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Greg Snyder Memorial Scholarship to be awarded by St. Mary's Catholic High School and may be arranged through the funeral home.
