SHEWAN, Grace Susan (neè Major)
It is with loving hearts that we mourn the loss of our Mother, Grandmother and Great-grandmother, Grace Shewan, affectionately known as Nanum, aged 97 years. Cherished Mother of Bonnie (Patrick), Ken (Naomi) and Jack (Petra). Loving Grandmother of Paul, Sarah, Mark, Lisa, Matt, Jessie, Nicole and Stephen. Dear Great-grandmother of Aidan, Evelyn, Thomas, Grace, Marina, Caleb, Brayden, Emmett, Dusty, Charlotte and Maddox. Dear sister of Jean Forward of London, England, the late Doreen Evans, and beloved wife of the late Arnold Murray Shewan of Thamesford.
Grace met Arnold in the Air Force (he with the RCAF, she with the UK WAAF), when they were posted together in Scotland working on Radar during the Second World War. They were married in 1944 and Grace, like so many adventurous War Brides, joined her husband, Arnold, in Canada in 1946.
At this time of social distancing a small private family visitation is being held, with a later date to be announced for a Celebration of Life and interment in St. Andrew’s Cemetery, Thamesford, beside her husband Arnold.
Grace loved being involved for many years with the Anglican Church Women, as Treasurer at St. John’s Anglican Church, and sang in the Church Choir. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to St. John’s Anglican Church, Thamesford, the London Health Sciences Centre-University Hospital, or the orchestras in hiatus with which her Grandchildren play, the Toronto Symphony Orchestra and the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra and may be arranged through Brock and Visser Funeral Home, Thamesford (519-285-2427).
