SEELEY, Georgina Helen - At the Woodstock Private Hospital, on May 25, 2009 in her 90th year. Predeceased by her beloved husband of 55 years, Murray Daniel Seeley (2003). Cherished mother of Elizabeth and her husband Robert Martin of Woodstock. Loved and honoured grandmother of Laura and William. Georgie had a remarkable life. She was born in Moncton N.B. to George and Lillian (True) Rideout, the youngest of a family of six. She was part of the first class to graduate from Moncton High in 1936. She completed her teaching certificate and taught for two years in a one room school in Upper Coverdale, N. B. In the upstairs hall of her family home hung a picture of the Union Jack bearing the motto "Of Service to King and Country". She took that motto to heart and entered nurses' training at Toronto General Hospital in September, 1939. After graduating with distinction she enlisted in the Canadian Army Medical Corps. She proudly served as a much decorated nursing sister (1942-1945), landing on the Normandy Beach shortly after D-Day and caring for wounded soldiers at Casualty Clearing Stations across France, Belgium and Holland. Georgie and Murray made their home in St. John, N.B., Forestville P.Q., Thunder Bay, Ontario and in retirement years, London, Ontario. Wherever Georgie landed her high spirits, love of life, sense of humour, enduring friendships, and devotion to family made her unforgettable. Georgie had been a resident of Woodstock for six years, living at Park Place Retirement Home and most recently the Woodstock Private Hospital. Georgie and her family were blessed by the love and care of so many remarkable people. We will always be grateful to them. Friends will be received at the Longworth Funeral Home, 845 Devonshire Ave., Woodstock, (519-539-0004) on Tuesday, May 26, 2009 from 7 until 9 pm where the funeral service will be held in the chapel on Wednesday, May 27, 2009 at 1:30 pm with Rev. John Furry officiating. Interment in the Baptist Cemetery. Contributions to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario would be appreciated. Online condolences at www.longworthfuneralhome.com
