George William Mowat

MOWAT, George- It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of George William Mowat on Thursday, July 12, 2018 at the age of 92. George was a Flying Officer with the Canadian Armed Forces in World War II where he earned the France and Germany Star, Defence Medal, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with clasp and War Medal 1939 to 1945. George's passions included golf, hiking, biking, hockey, and skiing. He was a coach for the Whitby Junior Ontario Hockey Association (1960). George worked at General Motors of Canada for 45 years. George is survived by his wife Christine. Loving father of Rodney (Elaine) Mowat, Terri (Teresa) Mowat-Smith (predeceased by husband Gerald), Elizabeth "Beth"(Dwight) Mitchell, John (Tracy) Mowat, Jacinta (Tom) Fobert, Christa (Aaron Dietrich) Allenden, and Ronalda (Jason) Dignan. Cherished grandfather of Brendan, Cori, Melissa, Shawn, Jayden, Dominic, Alyssa, Leif, Ella, Licas, Adam, and Bryce. Proud great grandfather of Dakota, Savana, Arriana, Elijah, and Keira. George was the oldest son of the late Roderick and Marion (nee Webb) Mowat. Predeceased by his siblings William, Malcolm, and Catherine, spouse Doreen (nee Holley), and grandchildren Morgan and Lisa. Friends and relatives are invited to join the family at Brock & Visser Funeral Home, 845 Devonshire Ave., Woodstock (519-539-0004) on Friday, July 20th, 2018 from 2 to 4 pm and again from 6 to 8 pm, where the funeral service will be held in the chapel on Saturday at 2:00 pm.
