It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Frazer John Mark on December 16th 2020. He was surrounded by his loving wife and fellow adventurer Sharon Mark (nee Faulkner), his daughter Mariko Aguiar (nee Mark) and his son Joshua Flark (nee Mark). He is survived by granddaughters Aylee and Isla.
Born May 14th, 1945 in Pitlochry Scotland to Lloyd and Sheila Mark (nee Smith), Frazer moved to Canada as an infant aboard the RMS Queen Mary. After growing up in Southern Ontario he began what would be a lifelong love of travel. He traveled Asia and Europe and came back to Canada to attend Waterloo Lutheran University and University of Western Ontario. There he earned his PhD in Geography and met his wife Sharon when she was working at London University Hospital.
Frazer worked with the Canadian Diplomatic Service for over three decades. His first posting in Tokyo Japan was also the birthplace of his daughter and was followed by Jamaica, Pakistan and London England where his son was born. The family continued travelling, living in Egypt, Canada, Philippines, Hong Kong, Trinidad and Tobago and Sri Lanka, before he returned to Canada.
Frazer was a wonderful father and grandfather and a caring husband. He found great joy in small things, loved telling stories and had many of them. He was an avid bird watcher, stamp collector, a lifelong bookworm, and loved old movies and genealogy. He was a member of the Oxford Philatelic Society, Woodstock Field Naturalists, was chair of the Woodstock Heritage Advisory Committee and a member of the Victoria Club.
Although his life was full, his retirement was cut short. He will be sorely missed by his family and friends. As per Frazer’s wishes, there will not be a funeral but a celebration of life will be held when it is safe to do so. Donations can be made in Frazer’s name to the Nature Conservancy of Canada, https://donate.natureconservancy.ca/page/25744/donate/1
