SMITH, Frank David - January 15, 1932 - March 23, 2013. "I have fought a good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith."Frank was born in a farm house in Markham Township on January 15, 1932, the first born son of Minnie and Nelson Smith. He was raised on the family dairy farm along with his younger brother, Lorne. Beginning in the mid 1950's Frank spent approximately 30 years as a Field Engineer with Burroughs Business Machines servicing business machines in northern and south-western Ontario. He settled in Woodstock where he met and married Marion Ellis Anderson. They enjoyed life together for 38 years. Frank grew up in the Lutheran Church in Unionville but spent 40 years with Marion at Central United Church. Frank gained great satisfaction from his 50 years of volunteering with Telecare, Operation Sharing, Learning Unlimited and Oxford County Victim Services. As part of his leadership with Telecare he organized and led groups on trips to New Zealand, Australia, Tasmania, South Korea, Taiwan and cities in Canada and the USA. Frank and Marion also enjoyed pleasure trips to the Panama Canal, Alaska, East Coast and Europe. Frank is survived by his wife Marion, daughter Laura (Brad) Vilness, son Robert (Brenda White), brother Lorne (Carol), step-daughter Mary Evelyn Anderson, grandsons Bryn and Brendan Vilness and first wife Agnes Farrell. Frank was predeceased by his parents, Minnie and Nelson Smith of Markham and his grandson, Tyler Hope Smith. Special thanks to the caring staff at Sakura House. A Memorial Service will be held in the chapel of the Brock & Visser Funeral Home, 845 Devonshire Ave., Woodstock, 519-539-0004 on Saturday May 11th 2013 at 3:30 pm.
