She was a devoted mother to Brian (Brigitte) Kaufman, David (Ellen) Kaufman, and Leanne (Hugh Wilkins) Kaufman. She was also cherished deeply by her grandchildren Nathaniel (Erica), Stephanie, Jaclyn (Andy), Michelle (Nick), Matthew, Kathryn (Alex), Aurora, and Andrew, and great-grandchildren, Emma and Elizabeth. Evelyn was predeceased by her loving parents, James A. and Katherine Black, and her brother, James G. Black. Evelyn also leaves behind her sisters-in-law, Sharon Pilkington (Gerry), Ruth Tucker, and Gretchen Hazelwood, and their children, along with many dear cousins.
Evelyn trained as nurse in KW and began her career as a family-physician nurse, working alongside Dr. Butt. Her nursing classmates remained a source of joy throughout her life. Although she left her profession to raise her family, her nurturing spirit never waned.
Evelyn gave back to her community in many ways, including as an active member of the Hebron Church UCW, the IODE, as a volunteer at the Woodstock Hospital, and other organizations. She also enjoyed her involvement with the Innerkip Book Club, until her eyesight was taken by GAP disease in 2016.
Evelyn's family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Caring Services for Seniors, and Oxford Gardens for their compassionate care and support. They also wish to thank the staff at Woodstock General Hospital, particularly the Dialysis Unit, and Drs. Aaron Regis, Claude Kortas and Susan Huang for their incredible support in her later years.
