TAYLOR, ELSIE DOREEN (nee Pain) - Of Woodstock, Ontario. March 25, 1923 - March 2, 2012. Peacefully, following a very brief illness. Predeceased by her beloved husband Donald A. Taylor (1999). Loving mother of Richard (Joanne) Taylor of Brighton, Michigan, Patty (Stephen) Clarke of Baden and Susan (David) Jass of Mount Dora, Florida. Treasured grandmother of eleven grandsons; Geoffrey (Brittany), Christopher (Alexa) and Gregory Taylor, Matthew (Nadia), Daniel (Shannon), Benjamin, Andrew and Aaron Clarke, Jeremy, Nathan (Ashley) and Stephen Jass. Great-grandmother of John, Miriam Joy and Daniel Clarke, Ian and River Jass. Sister of Howard (Marlene) Pain. Predeceased by brother Ken. Elsie was born and grew up in the prairie town of Aneroid, Saskatchewan. Her father was a homesteader and the family lived through the depression in the west. Moving back to Ontario in her teens, she finished high school and worked during the war years at the shipyard in Collingwood. She attended University of Toronto studying Occupational Therapy before marrying in 1946. Don's work as Agricultural Representative took them to Prince Edward County in 1948, then to Oxford in 1960. Elsie shared in the work by opening their home with warm hospitality on countless occasions and will be remembered for her constant and loving support of Don in all his community activities. She also used her talents as a 4-H leader and as a member of Women's Institute. She was a committed member of St. David's United Church, active in U.C.W. and choir. Her deepest joy in life was as a wife, mother and grandmother. She fulfilled these roles with love and passion, leaving a legacy of family commitment, stability, and community contribution. A memorial service will be held Sunday March 25, 2012 at St. David's United Church in Woodstock at 2:30 pm to celebrate her life on what would have been her 89th birthday. There will be visitation preceding the service, beginning at 1 pm. If desired, memorial contributions to St. David's United Church or the Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) would be appreciated and may be arranged through the Brock and Visser Funeral Home, Woodstock, 519-539-0004.
