M. Eleanor Triemstra, affectionately known as Eleanor, passed away peacefully at Woodingford Lodge on August 17, 2024, at the age of 89. Born on August 23, 1934, in Durham, Ontario, Eleanor was a beacon of love and creativity, whose warmth touched all who knew her.
Eleanor's life was a tapestry of family, music, and handcrafted beauty. She married her beloved husband, Stanley Triemstra, on October 11, 1958, and together they built a life filled with laughter and devotion until Stanley's passing in 2017. Their love was a foundation for their five children: Charles (Julie), Wayne (Julie), Rick, James (David), and Elizabeth (Jon) Burns. Eleanor's role as a grandparent was cherished deeply, as she showered love upon her grandchildren Shawn, Celia (Val), Christopher, Patrick (Chelsey), Kelsey (Shane), Samantha, Keelin, and Cooper. Her joy multiplied with the arrival of great-grandchildren Emma, Madison, Jacob, Kayley, Alexandra, and Spencer.
Predeceased by her parents, Andrew and Charlotte Hastie, and siblings Joseph and Mildred, Eleanor's legacy continues through her family, including numerous nieces, nephews, and extended relatives.
Eleanor's passion for music was evident to all who heard the melodies that flowed from her fingers as she played the piano. Her voice, a steadfast presence in her church choir, uplifted many. The same hands that created music also crafted warmth and beauty. Eleanor was an artist with yarn, her crocheted and knitted creations ranging from delicate sweaters to intricate Christmas ornaments that became treasured keepsakes for her family. Each stitch was a testament to her patience and care, a tangible expression of her love.
Sunday soup at Eleanor's home was a tradition that nourished both body and soul. It was a time for family to gather, share stories, and enjoy the simple pleasure of being together. These moments, now memories, are held close by those who loved her.
As the final notes of Eleanor's life's song linger in the hearts of those she leaves behind, her family takes solace in knowing that her legacy will continue to resonate through the generations. Eleanor's life was a melody of love, creativity, and family—a tune that will forever play in the memories of those who were blessed to know her.
