It is with great sadness the Kays family announces the peaceful passing of Edward Kays on Wednesday, February 12, 2020, at the Woodstock Hospital at the age of 95, with his loving family by his side. Beloved husband of the late Jean Kays (2006). Dear father of Sam Kays (Rae) of Porcupine Plain, Saskatchewan, Sandra Adams(John Murkin) of London, Katherine Collins (Doug) of Ingersoll, Margaret Janssen (Brad) of Woodstock. Adored grandfather of Eddie, Kasha, Holly, George, Jeffrey, Michael, Vanessa, Alanna, Avery, Carly, Tori, Drake, and great-grandfather to Orion, Rio, Chase, and Hyde. Survived by his dear sister Anne Cortesis of Cobourg, (late George), sister-in-law Betty Connolly (late Ken) of Mount Forest, and his many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Sam and Patricia (Poulakakou) Kays, brothers Alfred and Tom (Lyn) Kays, sister-in-law Ruth (Jack) McNairn, and brother-in-law Ken Connolly. Fondly remembered by cousins Antonia (Peter) Mandas of Royal Oak MI, John (Marty) Couretas of East Lansing MI, George (Rita) Anas of London, Jim (Ann) Anas of Burlington, Patricia (John) Mitsis of London, Peter (Deme) Anas of Washington DC, the late Jim and Pat Adams of Woodstock and the extended Heos family throughout North America. Also fondly remembered by his many Woodstock friends and coffee shop buddies. Ed was a member of the First Canadian Parachute Battalion formed midway through the Second World War that integrated with the 6th British Airborne Division. He quietly recognized his service with family and friends never having missed honouring his fellow servicemen each Remembrance Day at the Woodstock Cenotaph. Thank you to Dr. William George, Medical Floor nurses Rachel, Michelle, Holly, Martina and Diane from Palliative Care. Your care and compassion was greatly appreciated. Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held in the spring, with details to be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Heart and Stroke Foundation, Woodstock Hospital Foundation or a charity of your choice, and may be arranged through the Brock and Visser Funeral Home, 845 Devonshire Ave., Woodstock (519-539-0004).
