LUKIANCHUK, Edna (nee Ward) - passed away peacefully at Victoria Hospital, surrounded by her loving family on Dec. 10, 2008 in her 75th year. Dear mother of Oxanna Adams and her husband Warren, Lesya McQueen and her husband Dennis Greer and Mikkola Lukianchuk and his wife Helen. Dearest, devoted grandmother to Alex and Mikayla Lukianchuk. Edna is survived by her sister Joyce Ashman and her husband Ronnie , of Alicante, Spain . Edna was an inspiration and role model to the thousands of students she taught over her long and accomplished career as a high school English teacher, primarily at Grey Highlands Secondary School in Flesherton, Ontario, where her love and passion for teaching and learning led her to become regarded as quite an institution at GHSS. Over the years, Edna's love of learning grew; she recently developed a passion for Canadian History and just this summer, she travelled with her history class to Newfoundland - an experience she revelled in. She will also be remembered for her beautiful voice - singing in many choirs, and she was even scheduled to perform solos this Christmas season. Edna leaves her many friends and activities behind; she forged an active life in the past 5 years that she lived in Woodstock, from her Aquafit classes, to her presence at her darling grandchildren's school, to the neighbours for whom she developed a fondness. But most importantly was her dedicated role as mother; carving out a special relationship with each of her three very different children. Her zest for life and learning and diverse interests lead us to describe mother as a renaissance woman. For that, she will be most missed. A special thank you to Dr. Fortin and the many wonderful doctors, nurses and staff at London Health Sciences Centre - Victoria Hospital, Critical Care Trauma Centre for their excellent care and compassion. Thank you to the London Therapeutic Touch volunteers and to all our neighbours and friends for their support and wishes during this difficult time. At Edna's request cremation has taken place . A celebration of Edna's life will be held at the South Gate Senior's Centre, 191 Old Wellington Street South, Woodstock, Ontario on Sunday, December 14, 2008 from 1 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. A tribute service will be held at 2:30 p.m.
