Earl Shea

March 21, 1935 — October 19, 2023

Edward Earl Shea, affectionately known as Earl, passed away peacefully on October 19, 2023, in Port Burwell, ON. Born on March 21, 1935, in Montreal, PQ, Earl lived a life of service, leadership, and passion.

Earl was the beloved husband of Micheline (nee Bernier) and the proud father of two sons, Patrick and Bryan. He was a cherished father-in-law to Patrick's wife, Nancy (nee Jewett), and a doting grandfather to Dakota Geerlinks (Chase), Logan Shea (Laura), and Lauren Shea. He was predeceased by his parents, John and Margaret Shea, and by his brother Laurence Shea (Joan).

Enrolled to study at McGill University in Montreal, Earl's thirst for learning and his analytical mind set the stage for a vibrant and impactful career. His professional journey led him to serve as the General Manager of the Woodstock Chamber of Commerce and to hold prestigious positions as the  President of Craigowan Golf and CC and the Woodstock Rotary Club. His innovative leadership was also felt in his roles on the Board of the Woodstock BIA, the Ontario Trillium Foundation, and the Ontario Futures Community. Earl's commitment to his community extended to his service as the Past President of the Victoria Club and the Port Burwell Waterfront Committee.
Earl's passions extended beyond his professional life. An avid and skilled golfer and skier, he reveled in the thrill of the outdoors and the camaraderie that these sports fostered. His love for world travel showcased his adventurous spirit and his curiosity about different cultures. Earl's zest for life was also evident in his fondness for lawn games with his family, a tradition that created countless cherished memories. His keen interest in municipal happenings demonstrated his unwavering commitment to his community.
Known for his creativity, wisdom, and analytical thinking, Earl had a unique ability to transform complex problems into innovative solutions. His wisdom was evident in his ability to guide others, and his analytical mind was a cornerstone of his professional and personal life. Earl's legacy is one of dedication, service, and passion, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Earl's life was a testament to his commitment to his family, his community, and his passions. His legacy will live on in the organizations he served, the community he loved, and the family he cherished. His memory will continue to inspire those who knew him to live purposefully, to serve others, and to pursue their passions with unwavering commitment.

Friends will be received at the Brock and Visser Funeral Home, 845 Devonshire Ave, on Wednesday October 25 from 10am  until 2pm.  Funeral Service will follow at 2 o'clock in the funeral home chapel.  Cremation to follow.  To honour Earl's memory, donations may be made to the Perpetuity of the Port Burwell Lighthouse.


In the words of an ancient Gaelic blessing, "May the road rise up to meet you, may the wind be always at your back, may the sun shine warm upon your face, the rains fall soft upon your fields, and until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of His hand."

Rest in peace, Earl. You lived a life well-lived, and your legacy will continue to inspire for generations to come.
