Martin, Douglas Clarence - Aged 80, went to be with his Lord and Saviour, surrounded by his family in his home on Friday, April 10, 2020, in Woodstock. Doug was born on February 7, 1940 in Scotland, Ontario and moved with his family to Oxford Centre at the age of four. Married to Marion (nee Hurley) on June 8, 1963, they raised their children John (Elizabeth), Anne (Perry), and Shelley (Wendell) on the family farm in Oxford Centre. Doug loved the farm and developed a herd of registered Holstein dairy cows with which he achieved a Master Breeder shield. He remained actively involved in the day to day operation with a passion that was evident to anyone who knew him. Douglas was president of the Oxford Holstein Club and served as a counselor on the Ontario Holstein Branch of Holstein Canada. A lifetime-member of Berean Bible Church and Huron Park Baptist Church, Douglas passed on his love and gift of music to all of his twelve grandchildren. Doug also participated as both coach and athlete in many ball and hockey teams. Doug was a friendly face to anyone he met. He was known for his infectious smile and laugh to go along with his never-ending stories. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, three children, twelve grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, three brothers Reg Martin (Elaine), Harvey Martin (Grace), Gord Martin (Gloria), Sister-in-law Sandra Hurley, and many nieces and nephews. A private family burial has taken place. Celebration of Life to follow at a later date. Memorial donations in memory of Douglas may be made to The Gideons International in Canada or the Canadian Cancer Society and can be arranged through The Brock and Visser Funeral (519-539-0004).
