Douglas H. Foster

November 12, 1936 — September 3, 2024

Suddenly at home in Woodstock, Ontario on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, in his 88th year. Beloved and cherished husband of Katharine  (nee Balfour) for 45 years. Much loved father of Michael (Sandra) and Buddy Foster, and stepfather of David, Jason (Cheryl-Ann), and Steven Lovie. Loved grandfather of Michael Jr., Jamie, Christina and Porsche Foster, and Joshua Lovie. Proud great-grandfather of D.J. Mayhew. Dear brother-in-law of Shirley N., and Shirley R. Foster. Doug was predeceased by his brothers Elgin and Beverly Foster and sister Carol D’Arcy. He will be lovingly remembered by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and many, many friends.

Doug was just one of those happy people, he was funny, helpful, smart and witty to all who knew him. He enjoyed entertaining family and friends at the cottage in McKellar for many years and being entertained at friends' cottages for many summers.

Doug and Katharine were very proud that they had completed their bucket list of travels. Together, they went out and saw the world. They went from the top of Russia to Cape Horn at the bottom of South America, they walked the Great Wall of China and the streets of Jerusalem, Bethlehem and Istanbul, rode camels at the pyramids in Egypt, walked the beaches in the Philippines, went on safari in South Africa, spent their 25th wedding anniversary in Paris, France, visited all the areas where Katharine’s father fought in the First World War and took 16 cruises to various parts of the world, not to mention all the trips to Las Vegas. Doug loved to gamble (within reason) and once in a while, he won!

Doug was a kind and gentle man, and he will be missed.

A Celebration of Doug’s Life will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 55, 645 Dundas Street, Woodstock, on Saturday, September 14th, 2024, from 2pm – 5pm.
