BENDER, Gene - At the Woodstock Hospital on Sunday July 6, 2014. Douglas "Gene" Eugene Bender in his 68th year. Beloved companion and best friend of Monna L. (nee Insley) Kish for over 35 years. Dear father of Sherry Snider (Jim), Angela Bender (Jim), late Patrick Drew Bender and Christina Vince (Chris). Loved grandfather of Melissa (Trevor), Eric (Stephanie), Evan (Kiki), Jayden, Drennan, Grayson and great grandfather to Katja and Othneil. Dear brother of Norma Fleming and will be remembered by his several sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Predeceased by his parents Norman and Emma ( nee Lichti) Bender, sisters Delores and Fran and by his brothers Reg and Mel. Gene will be remembered as a fun and spirited man. He enjoyed telling jokes and even in his final days, he loved to keep the nurses smiling. Gene will be remembered for his love of music. He was an accomplished vocalist and musician with a variety of instruments. Gene played in many bands including "Sound Express" and "Leather Penny". One of the lasting memories his friends and family have for Gene was his culinary skills. He served many meals as the "Happy Cooker" and G & R Catering for a number of years. He will be missed by all who knew him. Friends and relatives are invited to join the family at the Moose Family Centre, 690 Sutherland Dr., Woodstock for celebration of Gene's life on Saturday July 26, 2014 from 2 - 5 pm.
