Doug Lloyd Richards

December 5, 1937 — July 24, 2023

Douglas Lloyd Richards, known affectionately as Doug, was a man whose passion for life and ceaseless pursuit of knowledge has left an indelible mark on the world. Born on December 5,1937 in Toronto, Ontario, Doug was a beacon of light to all who knew him. His journey came to a peaceful close on July 24, 2023, in London, Ontario surrounded by those he loved and who loved him. Doug is survived by his wife of 63 years, Kathleen (Kathie), his brother Ted (Linda) and his 3 loving children, Corinne, Jai (Nicole), Ian (Andrea) and his grandchildren Timothy, Mason, Carter, Rylan, Daxton and Alice as well as nieces Kimberly (Andrew) and Susan (Chris). He was pre-deceased by his parents, Lloyd and Inez and his sister, Margaret. Doug's love for learning was evident from a young age and this led him to study Electrical Engineering at Queen's University. His relentless pursuit of innovation and progress saw him play a significant role in the electrification of Saskatchewan, a testament to his industrious nature and unwavering dedication. However, his thirst for knowledge did not stop there. He was a self-taught computer programmer, always eager to keep pace with the rapid advancements in technology. Yet, Doug was not just a man of science and technology. He was a lover of the arts, and his interests spanned from music to theatre, symphony concerts and Opera productions. His hobbies and passions were as varied as they were vibrant, each one a testament to his zest for life and his insatiable curiosity. He
held a deep love for classical music, often losing himself in the melodies of a symphony or the harmonies of a piano concerto. Doug himself was a talented musician, playing both the trombone and piano with a passion that was infectious. He was a man who believed that life should be lived to its fullest, and he did so by spending quality time with his family, indulging in stargazing,
and wandering, always curious to discover more about the world around him. Doug Richards lived his life with purpose and passion, always guided by a loving and generous heart. His legacy is a testament to the power of kindness, the importance of curiosity, and the transformative effect of living a life guided by love and compassion. He was a living example that success is not
just about achieving remarkable things but also about the way we touch the lives of others. His kindness and generosity were as boundless as his intelligence and creativity. He had an uncanny ability to make everyone around him feel special, always taking the time to listen and lend a helping hand. As we remember Doug, let us not dwell on the sadness of his passing but celebrate the extraordinary life he lived.
