It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we share the death of Dorothy (Ludwig) Sutherland who died suddenly on Weds. April 19th, at 74 years, as the result of a tragic car accident.
She is the ever-loving wife of 57 years to Kenneth Sutherland of Woodstock with whom she shared a lifetime of wonderful memories.
Devoted mother to Kim Sulston (Jim Sulston) and Brenda Sutherland Parker (Jason Parker). A proud and loving grandmother to Laura, Joshua, Emily, and Jenna. She will be deeply missed by each of them. Her absence will be deeply felt by her whole family.
She is predeceased by her twin brother Douglas Ludwig, her granddaughter, Amy Sulston and her brothers-in-law, Peter Vink, Harold Sutherland and Robert Mulholland. Also, predeceased by her parents Harold and Edith (nee Binns) Ludwig.
She is the dear sister of Elaine Ficzere (Steve Ficzere), Bernice Vink and Marlene Ludwig. Dear sister in law to Janet Ludwig, Shirley Sutherland and Leonard and Esther Mulholland. Loved and remembered fondly by her nieces, nephews and cousins.
She has enjoyed a long retirement from her 30 year career at GM in Woodstock (1976-2006) where she made many wonderful friends with those bonds of friendship continuing through her retirement. She has been courageously battling blood cancer the last 4 years and was holding her own as she continued to enjoy every moment of life and was grateful for every day she continued to have her health and be with her family (including her beloved dog, Casey).
Together with Ken, she was passionate about nature and gardening, visiting local yard sales and auctions, playing euchre with family and friends, watching Canada's curling teams and, of course, the Toronto Blue Jays and Maple Leafs. She and Ken enjoyed some fabulous trips in their retirement, particularly Italy, Portugal, Ireland, Cuba, Aruba, Mexico and then an Alaska cruise on their 50th wedding anniversary.
The family will be holding a celebration of Dorothy's life at the Brock & Visser Home on May 7th from 2pm to 4:30pm. (845 Devonshire Ave.) Cremation will have taken place per Dorothy’s wishes. In lieu of flowers, we would appreciate donations to the Firestone Institute for Respiratory Health or the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada.
