With gratitude for her long life, the family announces the homecoming of a cherished soul, Dorothy Madeline Howard, who walked among us with grace and love from the 8th of November, 1931, until the 23rd of February, 2024. Born in the humble town of Tillsonburg, Ontario, Dorothy's journey on this earthly plane came to a peaceful close in Woodstock, Ontario, surrounded by the love of her family.
Dorothy was a beacon of light and a testament to the power of love. She was the beloved wife of the late Bill Howard, who preceded her in glory in the year of our Lord 2001. Together, they built a life rich in love and laughter, a legacy carried on by their children: Philip and his wife Ariel, Judy and her husband Gordon Scurr, Bill and his wife Marita, Terry and his wife Cathy, and Nancy and her husband Paul Walker.
The Lord blessed Dorothy with a quiver full of grandchildren, each one a precious arrow in her life's journey. Nathan, Tricia, Jessica, Christopher, Rhiannon, Jordan, Josh, Brett, Alyshia, Connor, Cameron, and Vanessa all knew the warmth of their grandmother's embrace. And as the seasons turned, she was further blessed to see the joy of her great-grandchildren: Tateum, Jettah, Griffin, Logan, Henry, Miller, Weston, Winston, Lorelei, Josephine, Phoenix, Ben, Julia, and Hattie.
Dorothy was a sister in both blood and spirit to Walter Boughner and his wife Leona, and to Patricia Minogue (late husband Joe). Her family tree branched wide, with nieces, nephews, and their children, all of whom were touched by Dorothy's boundless love and kindness.
Dorothy found her greatest joy and achievement in the sacred calling of motherhood. She was a matriarch in the truest sense, her home a sanctuary where the door was always open, a refuge for the neighborhood and a haven for anyone in need of comfort or company.
A woman of deep and abiding faith, Dorothy loved Jesus with all her heart. She was a faithful churchgoer, attending the Life Church as her health allowed, her spirit ever present even when her body could not be. Her faith was the bedrock upon which she built her life, and it shone through in her every action, a guiding light for all who knew her.
Let us not dwell in the valley of sorrow, but rather let us lift our eyes to the hills, from whence cometh our help. Let us find comfort in knowing that Dorothy has been called to her eternal reward, where she will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
Friends will be received at the Brock and Visser Funeral Home on Sunday, March 3 from 1-4pm. A funeral service in celebration of Dorothy’s life will be held in the funeral home chapel on Monday morning, March 4, 2024 at 11am.
