MATHESON, Donna Frances (nee Whetstone) - Passed away peacefully at the Woodstock Hospital, on Wednesday December 5, 2012 in her 83rd year, formerly of RR#2 Embro. Born October 20, 1930 to parents Harvey and Frances (nee Rolston) Whetstone. Beloved wife of the late George T. Matheson (2003). Cherished sister of Ray Whetstone and his wife Helen of Embro. Also remembered by in-laws Verna Whetstone, Jean and Robert Blair, Donna and Cecil Rowe, as well as several nieces, nephews and her special friend Joanne Johnston. Predeceased by her brother Warren Whetstone, sister Betty Matheson, sister-in-law Christine Piett and brothers-in-law Robert C. Matheson, Stuart Piett and Les Johnson. Donna was a longtime member of Knox Presbyterian Church, Embro, treasurer of the Ladies Aide for over 50 years also a longtime member of Rebekah Lodge. In her early years she was an avid baseball player with the Embro Queens, and was recognized for her pitching abilities. Donna passed along those skills to many of her nieces and nephews by making sure a good ball game would arise out of any family gatherings. Aunt Donna also made sure her great nieces and nephews could swing a bat and catch a ball. Donna married George Matheson on October 20, 1951, on her 21st birthday. They spent their years enjoying the pleasures that came from 59 years of farming. George and Donna were admired by many when they would glide across the dance floor, they did not have to travel far but took pride in the gifts that were close to home. Donna made sure their white picket fence was pristine. Aunt Donna loved when family and friends helped bale hay and made sure their bellies were filled with her baking after each load. Friday night were spent getting groceries at Al's and then letting a niece or nephew drive their vehicle while she pedalled behind on the bike. Aunt Donna was sure to attend all family functions often fitting two events into one day. The family looked forward to her Christmas pudding and delicious pies she always brought. Donna often brought laughter to these events with her crazy antics and funny antidotes. We feel blessed to have had Aunt Donna walk alongside us through-out life's journey. The family will receive friends at the Brock & Visser Funeral home, 845 Devonshire Ave., Woodstock 519539-0004, on Saturday December 8, 2012 from 2-4 and 7-9pm, where the funeral service will be held in the chapel Sunday at 1:30pm. Interment in the North Embro Cemetery. If desired, contributions to Knox Presbyterian Church, Embro or a charity of your choice would be appreciated. Online condolences at www.brockandvisser.com
