ANGER, Donald Nelson Jr.
It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Donald Nelson Anger Jr. at the age of 57 on February 2, 2025 at Port Credit, after having coped with Type 1 Diabetes for 30 years. He will be profoundly missed by his parents Donald and Virginia (Burnett) Anger, by his loving brother and sister-in-law Robert ‘Bob’ Anger and Lisa (Richards) Anger, his beloved nephews William Donald Anger and Thomas Robert Bruce Anger. Don Jr. is also survived by his Uncle Larry Anger and will be fondly remembered by his many cousins and friends. Don Jr. was predeceased by his grandparents Merven and Marjorie Anger, and Stanley and Beatrice Burnett; by his aunts and uncles Robert and Dorothy Burnett, Ross and Jane Logan, and Caryle Anger; and by his cousins Larry Anger Jr., Rick Burnett, Brian Logan and Tony Slattery. Don was born December 16, 1967 in Port Colborne where he grew up playing hockey, while attending Vimy Public School, McKay Senior School, and Port Colborne High School. He graduated from Laurentian University in Sudbury with a Bachelor of Arts degree, where he made life-long friends who were known as ‘The Boys’. This was followed by a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree, with Honours, from Brock University in St. Catharines in 1992. He and his former wife Jovie Joki were then hired at the opening of Casino Niagara where he continued to work until his retirement in 2022 from Fallsview Niagara, after having received his 25 Year Award. Through the years, one of Don’s favourite places to be was the family cottage in Magnetawan, spending time with his friends and family. His literary interests and expertise were spread quite broadly. He acquired a vast knowledge of the works of J.R.R. Tolkien, and collaborated on several research books about Tolkien’s writings. His early hockey-playing years gave him a practical pathway into the history of hockey, and for many years he became an active member of the ‘Society for International Hockey Research’. The comic book industry was another passion. Beginning in his youth as an avid collector, his interest in the history of Marvel Comics grew and developed over the years. He had an encyclopedic knowledge of its writers and artists, and the legendary characters they created, that was second to none. Star Trek, Star Wars and Classic Rock music were other interests he enjoyed throughout his life. Being able to share all of these interests with his two much-loved nephews was a special joy for Don and one he cherished greatly. The family will receive friends for visitation at the Brock and Visser Funeral Home, 845 Devonshire Ave., Woodstock (519-539-0004), on Saturday, February 15, 2025 from 12 noon until the time of the Funeral Service at 1 pm in the funeral home chapel.
