It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Diane Margaret Huras (Pulham) on Monday, January 15, 2024, in her 76th year. Born April 16, 1948, in London, Ontario, she is survived and will be dearly missed by her husband Allan of 54 years, son Craig and grandchildren Braedan (Amanda), Shandra and Isobela, as well as sisters Rosalind Cardwell (Bob) and Betty Pulham, brother-in-law Paul Huras, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents Russell Pulham and Frances Baker (Bill).
Diane and Al met on the gym floor of the old Sir Adam Beck Collegiate at a school dance in 1965 and have been together ever since. After High School she enrolled in and graduated from the St. Joseph's Hospital Regional School of Nursing where she met lifelong friends Donna and Jan. Diane and Al were married in 1969 and eventually moved to Woodstock with their son Craig when Al started teaching. Soon after settling in Woodstock, Diane started her nursing career at the Oxford Regional Center eventually becoming a Head Nurse. As the closing of Regional Centers loomed across the province, she started preparing herself for a career at the Woodstock General Hospital by taking college and university level courses to update her knowledge. She eventually worked her way on to the ICU ward, nursing alongside special friends Sandy, Emina and Randy. She worked in ICU until she accepted a position as the Evening Coordinator for the hospital, a position she held until her retirement in 2008. After her retirement, Diane and Al traveled to many far-off places including Hawaii, New Zealand, Australia, Europe, China and Alaska. They particularly enjoyed cruising, time spent in Florida and at Lorimer Lake.
Diane was extremely proud of her family and followed their progress with devoted interest. She enjoyed cooking and one of her favorite pastimes was planning and preparing special meals for them, especially at Christmas and on birthdays. Any time spent with family was special time and she loved going to their activities and watching them enjoy themselves. She was not a joiner, but did enjoy time spent with neighbors and friends, especially Peter, Carol, Edna and George and golf buddies Marilyn and Sandra. She was also an avid gardener and a casual bird watcher. Diane was a lifetime nurse during both employment and in retirement. She was organized, compassionate and caring, and always willing to help when asked for her opinion on matters involving personal health.
Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Diane's life will be held on Saturday, February 10, 2024, at 2 pm. Family will accept visitors from 1-2 pm at the Brock and Visser Funeral (845 Devonshire Ave. 519-539-0004).
