Dean had an infectious smile and it captured his wife, Madeleine (nee Moleroff) when they were both 19 years old. They married about 2 years later and had one child, Michael, Dean's pride and joy.
Dean came from "north of North Bay", Temiscaming, PQ, and found work at the "Tube" in Woodstock in the late 1960's. His only sister, Connie and her family were already settled in town.
Dean loved Rock 'n Roll, travelling, and his family. A simple man who prized a sunset, a one-line joke, and a celebration with friends...with a good meal. He loved the Ukrainian Feasts at holidays with Madeleine's side of the family!
Las Vegas became a favourite holiday but he loved a drive in the country around Woodstock, and a walk in the woods just as much.
His parents, Douglas and Anne Mitchell predeceased Dean, along with brothers, Robert, Georgie, Fabian, and Mike (2020). His dear Sister Connie died 2022.
Surviving family include brothers, Lawrence, and Roger and his wife Cathy, and their children, Stacy and Devin, along with the grandchildren, Alexis and Andrew.
Brother-in-law, Ferman Sawyer and nephews Robert, Shane, and Ferman Jr. and their families. He adored Carrie and Crystal.
Extended family in Ontario and Quebec will remember Dean's early adventures at "Big Jocko" with a laugh and maybe a tear. His "Auntie Liz" was so helpful in unravelling the Mitchell family tree.
Dean was a proud member of the Kebaowek First Nations. Dean died peacefully, but suddenly, at the Woodstock Hospital of chronic illnesses in his 76th year with Madeleine and Mike at his bedside.
Later, in the late afternoon sunshine they went to Six Nations of the Grand River, and burned sweet grass beside the river.
A Celebration of Life will be held on June 8, 2024 from 2-4 pm at Brock and Visser Funeral Home (845 Devonshire Ave 519-539-0004) Share a memory at brockandvisser.com
