David "Dave" Thomas Allan Van Raalte

David Thomas Allan van Raalte, after a long and courageous battle with cancer, passed away November 16, 2023, surrounded by family. Born on January 6, 1970, Dave lived his life with a mischievous twinkle in his eye that matched the chrome on his beloved Harley and Peterbilt.

Dave was the proud husband, best friend, and riding partner to Joan (nee Rupert) for 27 years. Their love story was filled with laughter, adventure, and a bond that was unbreakable. Dave was an amazing dad to Dawson and Matt, teaching them how to appreciate the finer things in life, like fast cars and guitars.  Beloved son to Dianne and Eric Mingo and the late Bert van Raalte.  Brother to April Fawcett (Hugh), Rob Lawrence (Tracey), and Brenda Bishop (Randy). Brother-in-law to Steve Rupert (Kim), an uncle to Adam Thorn (Lisa) and Ashley Barendrecht (Matt), and cherished son-in-law of the late Keith (2021) and Vicky (2002) Rupert.  Dave was a family man, who always had your back, who shared his love for life and laughter with those closest to him.

Dave spent over 20 years as a truck driver, mastering the art of the long haul. But it was in transportation safety where he found his true calling, doing his part to make the highways a safer place by providing driver training. He was also a proud member of the Moose Lodge 1141 in Woodstock.

He was never happier than when he was on his motorcycle, feeling the wind in his hair and the rumble of the engine beneath him. He had a need for speed, a love for guitars and muscle cars, and a passion for his family that was as deep and wide as the open road he loved to travel.

Dave’s family extends their deepest gratitude to the staff, nurses and doctors in the Palliative Care Unit at the Woodstock Hospital – your compassionate care, friendship and support will never be forgotten.

A memorial service celebrating Dave’s life will take place at 2pm on Wednesday November 22, 2023 at the Brock and Visser Funeral Home.  Friends will be received during a time of fellowship and refreshment immediately following the service.
