KING, David Andrew - It is with great sadness we announce the passing of David Andrew King at Woodstock Hospital on Monday, April 09, 2018, in his 92nd year. Predeceased by his beloved wife and partner for 69 years, Mabel (nee Rooke) and their children Jean, Carol and Wayne. Dear brother of Harry (Annice) King and sister-in-law Marlene King. Dear brother-in-law of Marjorie Cook, Harold (Norma) Rooke, Robert (Barb) Rooke, Linda Vernooy, Florence Rooke and Irene Rooke. Lovingly remembered by his niece Wendy Harte- Maxwell who was always there for him and many other nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Robert and Flora King (nee Ross) and his in-laws Clarence and Jennie Rooke, brothers Ken (Pearl) King, Don (Kay) King, sisters Helen Farrer, Edna Morris and by his brothers-in-law Arthur Rooke, Charles Rooke, Peter Vernooy and sister in-law Shirley Orr. Dave was born in Kindersley, Saskatchewan September 20th, 1926 and grew up in Port Arthur (now Thunder Bay) Ontario. He trained in the army for 9 months in Woodstock before the war ended in 1945. During this time he met Mabel which brought him back to Woodstock. They married in 1948, had 3 children and he started Dave King Construction in 1949, with the addition of his brother Don, the name changed to King Brothers Construction Ltd. in 1966. When he needed a change he and Mable went to Thessalon in 1975 and built Windmill Campground where they remained for 32 years. When they finally retired, they moved to London to live with their son Wayne until his passing in 2011. For the past 5 years they called Park Place in Woodstock home. Family and friends are invited to join the family at the Brock and Visser Funeral Home, 845 Devonshire Ave., Woodstock, 519-539-0004 on Friday April 13, 2018 from 10:00 - 11:00 am, where the complete funeral service will be held in the chapel on Friday at 11:00 am with Rev. Bonnie Pilkey officiating. Interment later in the Hillview Cemetery. If desired, memorial contributions to Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.
