CARTER- Peacefully at his residence with his granddaughter Johanna at his side on Thursday, March 4, 2010. Cliff W. Carter of Woodingford Lodge and formerly of Sloane St. Woodstock in his 89th year. Beloved husband of the late Irene R. Carter (nee Cox)(2003). Dear father of Susan Hampson and her husband Joe of Oxford Centre, Bruce and his wife Susan of Lambeth. Loved grandfather of Johanna (Jeff) Ducharme, Andrew Hampson, Harrison Carter and Josh (Mara) Wilton. Dear great grandfather of Emma, Ella, Evan and Rylee. Dear brother of Irene Wiley of British Columbia and Elva Armstrong of Auburn. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by an infant great granddaughter Emma Hampson, his sister Clarissa Price and brother Harold Carter. Cliff owned and operated Carter Cleaners in Woodstock for over 35 years, spending his retirement years with his wife Irene and their friends in Arizona. He served with the 48th Highlanders during WW II serving in the North African and Italian campaigns. Cliff was an avid golfer, curler, enjoyed horseshoes and was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch# 55 Woodstock and a former member of the Woodstock Jaycees. Friends may call at the Longworth Funeral Home 845 Devonshire Ave., Woodstock (519-539-0004) Monday from 7-9 pm where the complete funeral service will be held in the chapel Tuesday at 11:00 am. Interment later at Christ Church Anglican Cemetery, Oxford Centre. Contributions to the Woodstock General Hospital Foundation or VON Sakura House would be appreciated.
