Carlo Ziraldo May 31, 1943 – January 15, 2022
Carlo James Ziraldo died January 15, 2022, he was 78. Born in Fagagna, Italy to Ivo and Emma Ziraldo. The family immigrated to Canada in the 50’s and settled in Woodstock, ON. Carlo started working at a young age in factories in Woodstock, including Paquette’s and Weldwood and then Standard Tube for 35 years.
In 1985, he married Debbie Barker and they purchased their small farm south of Thorndale, ON. This was Carlo’s opportunity to pursue his passion for standardbred horse racing more fully. He enjoyed raising and training horses for over 20 years and avidly followed the race results. Carlo also loved birds. As a young lad he raised pigeons and later at Thorndale he raised pheasants, peafowl, wild turkeys, chickens and ducks. Eventually the horse business transitioned into alpacas, which he enjoyed, along with Debbie. He was a cowboy at heart and enjoyed watching his Westerns.
Carlo was a proud founding member of the Columbo Club of Oxford. The family enjoyed many a delicious meal there over the years.
Carlo loved being a father and Nonno. His memory will be cherished by his wife Debbie, sons Colin, Christopher (Sarah), granddaughters Aspen and Sabrina, sister Bruna and brother Robert (Rosanna). Fondly remembered by nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents and his first wife Rosie Odorico.
Cremation and a private family service have been held.
Internment will take place at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Ingersoll, at a later date.
