PARKES, Betty Aloma Jessie (Harrington) of Woodstock died Saturday, January 8, 2011 in her 83rd year. She is predeceased by her husband of 61 years George Ernest (2009), and great grandson Jacob; she is survived by children Pam (Parkes) and husband Rob Hagen (Woodstock), Ernie Parkes and his wife Kathleen (Nova Scotia), Ray Parkes and his wife Mary (Burlington), and Rebecca Parkes and her fiancée Gary Hodge (St. Thomas); 8 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren; her in-laws Patricia and Jim Lefler, and Doreen Parkes; predeceased by her parents Ray and Jessie Harrington, sister Ruth (Ransome). Betty was an active member of the Woodstock and St. Thomas Golf and Curling Clubs, City Councillor in St. Thomas , founding member and President of the Women's Art Gallery of St. Thomas and volunteered her time with many community projects and committees. Betty will be best remembered for her optimism, loving heart and coaching others on the fine art of hugging. Friends will be received at Craigowan Golf and Country Club, Woodstock on Thursday, January 13, 2011 from 6 - 8 pm and Friday, January 14, 2011 after 12 pm where a celebration of life will take place at 1:00 pm. Donations to the St. Thomas Art Gallery, TLC Foundation for Jacob's Story, Woodstock Library, or to a local charity of your choice would be appreciated and can be made through the Longworth Funeral Home, Woodstock, (519-539-0004).
