MATHESON, Betty Laverne - Died peacefully at the Woodstock Hospital on Saturday June 16th 2012 in her 90th year. Born on July 8, 1922 at Lakeside Ontario to parents Harvey Whetstone and Frances (nee Rolston) Whetstone. Predeceased by her loving husband Robert Campbell Matheson on May 7, 2009. Betty and Bob had celebrated 65 years of marriage before Bob's passing. Dear mother of Jack, Al (Anne), Gary (Debbie), Ken (Marlene) all of Embro and Joan (Lloyd) Hobbs of Hamilton. Proud grandmother of Dean (Brandy) Matheson, Nicholas (Meagan) Matheson, Jeff (Kim) Leonhardt, Kevin Leonhardt, Gregory (Samantha), Ryan (Vicki), Andrew(Ashley) & Kurtis Matheson, Jason (Beth) Alexander, Jennifer & Robert Hobbs. Great grandmother of Wade, Alaina & Layla Matheson & Mason & Trinity Alexander. Predeceased by grandsons Dale & Dennis Matheson, brother Warren Whetstone, and in-laws George Matheson, Donald Matheson, Jim & Margaret Monteith, Russell & Anne Woods. Survived by sister Donna Matheson brother Ray (Helen) Whetstone, and in-laws Verna Whetstone, Jean Matheson and many special nieces and nephews. Betty and Bob were long time dairy farmers at RR#3 Embro in Zorra Township. Betty was a member of Knox Presbyterian Church Embro, where she was a longtime Sunday School Teacher. She was also an active member of W.M.S, Ladies Aid, Women's Institute, Embro Agricultural Society, and curator of the Tweedsmuir History Books for many years. Betty was known for her many homemaking talents of canning, painting, quilting, gardening, and needlework and also produced many jars of jams and jellies for the store at Fanshawe Park Historical Village in London for many years. A memorial service to celebrate Betty's life will be held at the Knox Presbyterian Church, Embro on Sunday July 8, 2012 at 2 pm, with Rev. James Knott officiating.
