MECKBACH- At Woodingford Lodge Woodstock on Thursday March 25, 2004. Bertha W. S. Meckbach (nee Strahm) in her 97th year. Bertha was born in Tavistock December 23, 1907, only daughter of the late Hedwig (Schmidt) and Christian Strahm and sister to Carleton, Wilfred, Earl, Oliver, Lloyd and Clair. Beloved wife of the late John Otto Meckbach; mother of Joyce (Ken Motts) of Kitchener, Bruce (Mary) of Forest, Lloyd "Sam" (Marjorie) of Sooke B.C., Grant (Deceased 1943), Ruth Ann (Vic) Jeanson, Grace (Janusz) Osinski all of Woodstock. Dearest friend and ally of her grandchildren: Nigel Motts, Katherine Walton and Alexandra Motts; Lisa and Greg Meckbach; Stephanie Sangha and John Meckbach; Rob and Jeremy Jeanson; Jacquelyn McKenzie and M. Alexandra Fraser; Oliwia Osinska-Jurczak their spouses, children and grandchildren. Also mourned by her sisters in-law Marie and Margaret Strahm of Stratford and by her nieces, nephews and their families. A longtime resident of Woodstock, Bertha led an active life, first as an elementary teacher, then as a devoted mother and partner in her husband's appliance store. She volunteered at the Y.W.C.A., the Lung Association, Meals on Wheels, and participated faithfully in the work of her Church. Bertha taught by example a strong commitment to family, learning, and the sustaining power of music and faith. She met life's challenges with wit, good humour and grace. Friends may call at the R.D. The funeral service will be held at Bethany Lutheran Church 175 Springbank Ave. Woodstock Tuesday at 11:00 am with Rev. Richard Holm officiating. Interment later in St. Paul's Lutheran Church Cemetery, Tavistock. Donations to Bethany Lutheran Church or the Lung Association of Oxford County would be appreciated.
