Anne (Rietkerk) Houthuyzen

September 30, 1934 — May 23, 2020

HOUTHUYZEN, Anne (Rietkerk) - Went into the presence of the Lord, surrounded by her family, on Saturday, May 23rd, 2020 at the Woodstock Hospital in her 86th year. Anne immigrated from the Netherlands in 1958 with her handsome husband and a baby on the way. Anne lived a life of great faith. Despite the fact that she spent her childhood in a prisoner of war camp, she overcame many obstacles to become an incredible teacher. She loved her years in the schools and affectionately became known as Mrs. Anne. Mom spent countless hours volunteering with palliative care and playing her guitar weekly at Woodingford Lodge. Mom's legacy of eternal optimism, never ending smiles, endless patience, perseverance, dedication to serving others and determination are attributes her family will always admire. Loving wife and best friend of the late Christiaan Houthuyzen (2018). Cherished mother of Conny Masson (Harvey), Ernie Houthuyzen (Joanne), Tim Houthuyzen, Stephanie Allen (Andrew) of Middle Sackville, Nova Scotia, and Anne-Monique "Nicki” Howe (Jim). Beloved grandmother (Oma) of Joshua, Tiffany (Darren), Cody (Rachelle), Christine, Erin (Steve), Jonathan (Stacey), Annette(Gabe), David (Melanie), Ben, Stormie, Noah, Sophie, Kelsey and Emma. Proud great grandmother of nine. Dear sister to Dini DeBeer (Tim) and Jean Rietkerk (late Dick), sister in law of Robert Huyzen (Mary), Corry Flipse (late Lein), and Anne Houthuyzen (late Ernest). Survived by many nieces, nephews and extended family. Many thanks to the team of doctors, nurses, physiotherapists at the Woodstock Hospital for their excellent care of Mom over the last 22 months. Thanks to the staff at Woodingford Lodge for making Mom feel like she had a home for the last six weeks. Special thanks to the palliative care team for all your love shown to Mom and family during a very difficult time. Due to the recent restrictions, a private family interment will take place at Oxford Memorial Park Cemetery. A celebration of life will occur in the future as soon as restrictions are lifted. If desired, memorial contributions to World Vision would be appreciated and may be arranged through the Brock and Visser Funeral Home. Personal online condolences at www.brockandvisser.com.
