Ana (Frketic) Zivcic

Ana Zivcic (nee Frketic) was called home to be with our Lord in her 77th year on Tuesday April 16, 2013 at VON Sakura House. She succumbed to uterine cancer after bravely enduring a brief illness. Ana is survived by her husband of 53 years Ivan Zivcic Sr., her son Ivan Zivcic Jr. (RonnieJean), adored by her two grandsons Nicholas Zivcic and Andrew Zivcic. Sister of Barbara (late Stefan) of Croatia, and Maria (Petar) of Germany. Predeceased by parents Josip and Katerina (nee Barsic) Frketic. Predeceased by siblings Katerina, Ivan, Josip, Anthony (late Nada), Ruza (Luka) and Josipa (late Nedeljko). She was loved and respected by cousins: Maria Jurkovic of Croatia; George Macecevic (Sara) of the U.S.; John Macecevic (Barbara) of the U.S. and their children. Dear aunt to many nieces and nephews in Canada, Croatia and Germany. Ana will be missed by extended family members and friends in Canada. Born and educated in the former Yugoslavia (Croatia), Ana went on to become an accomplished teacher receiving recognition for her excellent work. She often taught in underserved and poor areas of the region and went over and above her teaching responsibilities by feeding and caring for her students like her own children. Known in the family as a natural born teacher, she could always be counted on to provide education on many subjects such as agriculture, natural herbal remedies, health etc. along with family, music was also an important part of her life. She played several instruments including mandolin, accordion and piano and has been a member of several Croatian Folk Music bands over the years. Most recently she was a member of the Veseli Pedasi group. Her band mates were a large part of her life over the last 10 years and she will be missed dearly. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service to celebrate Ana's life will be held at St. Anthony of Padova Roman Catholic Church in Welland, ON at a later date.
