Alvin Littlejohns

LITTLEJOHNS, Alvin Charles Dennis, passed away on January 6th, peacefully in his sleep with family by his side due to complications from pneumonia at the age of 91, once again reunited with the love of his life Florence (nee Simkin).

Son of the late Wilfred and Clara Littlejohns of Woodstock, Ontario.

Cherished Father of Brian Littlejohns and his wife Denise of Barrie, Roger Littlejohns and his wife Cindy of London and Cindy Bryson and her partner Mike Pollington of Tillsonburg.

Very special Grandpa of Kate and Kyle Braithwaite, Ted and Nichole Lane, Jordan Bryson and her partner Kaitlyn Ipsen and Mike Bryson. Adored Great Grandpa of Autumn and Aurora Braithwaite and Kara Lane.

Survived by his favourite Sister Judy and her husband Carl Serviss, Brother Gary Littlejohns and his wife Carol, Sister-in-laws Ina Littlejohns, Mary McMillian and Jean Simkin and many caring nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by his in-laws John and Alice Simkin, his Brother Harry Littlejohns and Brother-in-law’s Mike Moskal, George Simkin, and Allan McMillian.

Alvin was a dedicated member of College Avenue United Church since 1964 and was one of the “guys behind the famous sign”. He served on the Property Committee, Board of Directors, participated in Men’s Club, Thursday afternoon Euchre games and any events held by the Church that needed a helping hand.

Alvin was employed at Fisher Controls for 36 years and took great pride in his work knowing the valves he produced had a role to play in keeping people safe. Dad was always supportive of our extra-curricular activities, whether being up early to take Roger to Hockey, Cindy to Piano lessons, coaching our little league softball team or as a member of our High school Basketball "Booster Club". He was always cheering his family on and continued to do so with the same enthusiasm for his Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren too.

Dad wasn't originally what you would call an "outdoors person", but took up Camping, starting with a Tent, moving up to a Tent Trailer, Camper Trailer, then Motorhome. Many stories and in his opinion "The Best Sunsets in the world" could be seen on Lake Huron at Boiler Beach in Kincardine  or Paul Bunyan  in Bayfield Campgrounds.

Between working hard, serving his community and caring for his Family he still made time for fun.  He loved to play his guitar in various bands and jam sessions over the years, and if there was a dance going on he and Mom would be there. He still somehow found time to pursue another passion, that of the restoration of his 1930 Model A. It took him 14 years to complete but as anyone who knew Alvin knows he was a "stick to it" kind of guy. When complete, for at least 24 years (- one for COVID) he has been a fixture with many guest passengers in the 24th of May parade. More recently he could be seen out and about in his "Big Red Truck".

He will be fondly remembered by his family and community as the kindness person who loved life and was a friend to all. ​​

To honour Dad’s wishes visitation will be held at College Avenue United Church, 22 Wilson St. Woodstock on Wednesday, January 11th 2023 at noon with the service to follow at 1PM.  Interment at Oxford Memorial Park Cemetery.
