De Boer, Alida – Off to join her beloved soulmate Albert (2009) she left us on March 23, 2021 and was in her 85th year. Alida was a devoted Mother to her children Margaret (Doug) Hutchison and Eric (Lisa) De Boer and especially proud of her grandchildren Nickolaus and Ashleigh. She also leaves behind her sister Helen, in laws Audrey and Ken Howard, Carol Verhoef, and will be fondly remembered by her cousins, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Jacobus and Margaret Verhoef, brother Jim Verhoef, brother in laws Wiebe Horinga and Alphonsus Versaevel and sister-in-law Sally Horinga.
Alida and Albert were married in 1958 and lived a simple, happy, and private life together raising their children and teaching them to appreciate the things that they had. Countless hours tending to their yard and gardens, fishing for perch, and early preparations for the next family gathering were their hobbies. Caring about and trying to make their children and grandchildren’s lives easier was their delight. Alida will be remembered for her quick wit, colorful knitting, sly grins, and ability to make something out of nothing if a project needed to be completed last minute as well as allowing her grandchildren to get away with many things that her children were never allowed to - the way its supposed to be.
She followed the COVID guidelines and managed to keep herself safe, only to suffer from a short illness a short time before she would have been able to be vaccinated and go back out into the world. Friends are invited to join the family at Covenant Christian Reformed Church, 410 Lansdowne Ave., Woodstock, on Friday March 26, 2021 from 10:00 – 11:00 am, where the funeral service will be held at 11:00 am. (Visitors must RSVP on the funeral home website, space is limited) A private family interment will take place in the North Embro Cemetery. If desired, memorial contributions to the Canadian Diabetes Association, Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of your choice would be appreciated and may be arranged through the Brock and Visser Funeral Home, Woodstock, 519-539-0004. Personal expressions of love and sympathy may be given at www.brockandvisser.com
