VanderSpek, Alice - Our loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Alice (Altje) VanderSpek (Balkema) passed away from her earthly home to her heavenly home on Friday December 9, 2016 at the Stratford General Hospital. She was just shy of her 88th birthday and was born to the late Anna and Jacob Balkema on December 22, 1928 in Veendam, The Netherlands. Alice is survived by her loving husband, Case and her children Cathy and Peter Kralt, (Anita Kralt, Michael and Jeannine Kralt, Jacob and Jasmine Kralt, David Kralt, and Corinna and Luke Puklicz) Neil and Janet VanderSpek (Kevin and Adriana VanderSpek, Marlene VanderSpek, Derek and Michelle VanderSpek, Alicia and Jeff Fung, Emily VanderSpek and Hendrick VanderSpek) Connie and Peter Bos (Peter Bos, Alex Bos, Corinne and Micah Brenner, Aric and Andrea Bos, Rob Bos) Elizabeth Halliday and the late Dr. Bruce Halliday (Kathryn and Dan Cressman, Mark and Jerlene Halliday, Andrea and Peter Jutzi) Marion and Bob Dieleman (Laura and Derek Benjamins, Rachel Dieleman, Andrew Dieleman) Janet vanderSpek, David and Joyce De Gier VanderSpek (Andrew VanderSpek, Leah VanderSpek, Jonathan VanderSpek) She is also survived by 15 Great Grandchildren, her sister Anne VandeZande as well as her brothers and sisters-in-law in Canada and the Netherlands. Predeceased by brother Frank Balkema (2009 ) and sister Emmy Walton (2016). Alice and her husband Case lived and farmed for most of their married life on the Ninth Line of East Zorra Township where they raised their seven children. Alice loved to garden and greatly enjoyed community events where she was an active member of the Braemar Women's Institute and the Covenant Church Ladies Society. She will be greatly missed by friends and family. The family will receive friends at the Covenant Christian Reformed Church, 410 Lansdowne Ave., Woodstock, on Wednesday December 14, 2016 from 2-4pm & 7-9pm. The memorial service to honour Alice's life will take place in the sanctuary on Thursday December 15, 2016 at 2pm with Pastor Doug Vande Kamp officiating. A private interment has been held at the Oxford Memorial Park Cemetery.
