JOHNSON, Alford (Alf) - Born on April 28, 1923 in Vienna, Ontario, passed away at Woodstock General Hospital on Monday, February 14, 2011, Alford (Alf) Johnson of Woodstock in his 88th year. Beloved husband of Helen (nee Hollands) Johnson. Predeceased by his wife June (nee Summerhayes) Johnson (1995). Stepfather of Heather (Greg) Staples of Keswick and Robert (Joan) Bouskill of Montreal. Step grandfather of Alex, Lydia, Miller, and Holland. Also survived by his sisters-in-law Jill Hollands of Tavistock, Kay Johnson of Brantford, Helen Johnson of Windsor, Betty Summerhayes of Ingersoll, and Joyce Minler of Woodstock and brother-in-law Harold Summerhayes (Irene) of Woodstock, and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Louis and Margaret (nee Murphy) Johnson, brothers Merlin, Norman, Ralph, Lennard, Michael, and sisters Florence and Margaret. Alf served with the Royal Canadian Navy in WWII, had worked for Overland Transportation for 37 years, and was a longtime member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #55 Woodstock. Friends will be received at the Longworth Funeral Home, 845 Devonshire Ave., Woodstock, (519-539-0004) on Thursday, February 17, 2011 from 2:30 - 4:30 and 7 - 9 pm where the celebration of his life will be held in the chapel on Friday, February 18, 2011 at 1:30 pm with Rev. John Furry officiating. Cremation to follow with interment later in the Anglican Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Alzheimer Society, Canadian Cancer Society, or Woodstock Hospital Foundation would be appreciated.
