KIRBY, Albert (Al) George, Jan. 14, 1924 - May 17, 2012, survived by his loving and devoted wife of 64 years Patricia (nee Sitter), sister Nancy Mills and brother Jim Kirby, his children David (Launi), Linda (Frank Guetter), William, Steve (Marie), and Kathie, his grandchildren Hollie, David, Alex, Annie, Andrew, Jesse, Stephen and Paul, as well as 5 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. One of our few remaining Combined Operations veterans of the WWII Dieppe Raid, Al was born to the combined Kirby/Searle family in Toronto, Ontario, moving as a boy to Woodstock, where he attended WCI. Returning home after the War he was commissioned an officer in the Oxford Rifles (reserve) and established Kirby Brothers, an electroplating business. He retired after many years with Fisher Controls. An active member of the community, Al was a long-time member and Past President of the Navy Club, a hockey coach, an officer and auxiliary member of the Woodstock Sea Cadets, and a skating instructor for challenged children. An amateur pilot, Al once landed his "mystery plane" on Highway 401. Always on the go, he enjoyed skating, playing hockey, swimming, scuba diving, jogging, bicycling, roller blading, exploring Brick Pond, sailing, woodworking, reading or whatever caught his interest, and laughing and joking with family and friends. Al loved and lived life to the fullest. Friends and relatives are invited to join the family at the Brock and Visser Funeral Home, 845 Devonshire Ave., Woodstock, 519 539-0004 on Wednesday May 23rd, 2012 from 7-9 pm where a memorial service will held on Thursday in the chapel at 11:00 am. Cremation has taken place. If desired, memorial contributions to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Ontario would be appreciated. Online condolences at www.brockandvisser.com
