Agnes Evelyn King

November 21, 1929 — August 1, 2024

KING, Agnes E.

Peacefully and surrounded by family, Agnes Evelyn King passed away at Sakura House on Thursday, August 1st in her 95th year. Born in Paris on November 21, 1929, she was the eldest daughter of the late Roy and Lillian (McClellan) Turnbull. Pre-deceased by husband John Allen King (August 28, 2023). Loving mother of Ruth (David) Duncan, David (Gwen) King, Donna (Rob) Berg, Nancy (Gord) McNeice, Rob (Erika) King. Grandmother to Sarah (Nathan) Brenneman, Kevin King, Dan (Ashlee) Wettlaufer, Lyndsay (Michael) Woodward, Ian McNeice, Chris McNeice, Graeme McNeice, Devon King, Greydon King and Ashlee King. Greatly missed by seven great-grandchildren:  Cassie, Beau, Finn, Natalie, Wesley, Sophie and Harrison. Beloved sister of Leone (Douglas) Sutor. Also survived by nieces Carolyn (Dave) Rumble and Margaret (Ken) Van Dyk and many great-nieces and nephews.

After graduating from the Macdonald Institute at University of Guelph in 1952, she served as Home Economist for various 4-H Homemaking Clubs in Southern Ontario. Married to John on September 11, 1954, they farmed on the King homestead until retiring to Hickson in 1986.

Agnes was actively involved at Hebron United Church, serving as Organist and Choir Director for 40 years. During that time, she taught piano privately to area students. Her giftedness and talents enabled her to hold various leadership positions in the local church and with the United Church Women.

Spending time with family was important to her - playing music or singing together, playing or cheering on baseball, or supporting us and others as she shared from the wealth of her own life experience and wisdom. She loved hosting and contributing to family dinners for Christmas, Thanksgiving and other special occasions. Agnes was known for her Sweet Marie squares, scalloped potatoes, fresh strawberry pie and her butter tarts!

The family would like to thank the amazing staff at Sakura House, Oxford Gardens, Dr. Tamachi and the Palliative Care Team, and the Westmount Kidney Care Centre in London for their compassionate care and support.

Friends will be received on Friday, August 9th from 7:00 - 9:00pm at Brock & Visser Funeral Home, 845 Devonshire Avenue, Woodstock, Ont. The Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 10th at 11:00am at Hebron United Church, 676241 16th Line, Bright, Ont. with a one-hour visitation preceding the service.
