March 23, 1947 – January 31, 2024

After a long, courageous battle with cancer, York passed away peacefully with family by his side.

Predeceased by his mother, Rosemarie Schellhorn. York will be dearly missed by his two sons Trevor and Jaime Braunig and Kevin and Summer Braunig, and his grandchildren, Tyson, Dexter, Evelyn, Addison, and Kier.

Born in Germany, York made his way to Quebec, Canada at a young age. As an adult, he moved to Ontario where he enjoyed a 32-year career with CP Air, Canadian Airlines, and Air Canada at Toronto’s Pearson International Airport.  A resident of the Mississauga Californian Condos for the last 30 years, York was an active board member including a stint as president, and developed many lifelong friendships among his neighbours and their children as he watched them grow.

York always had a knack for adapting to new technology and loved being one of the first to embrace it. Whether it was a VCR, home computer, video camera, cell phone, iPad, or countless other gadgets, York would be the first in the neighbourhood to get his hands on it.

However, his true passion throughout the years was photography and of course the many gadgets that went along with it. Whether with family, enjoying nature or traveling, he could always be found with a camera in hand, ready to take (and re-take ten times) the perfect picture.

A special thanks to all the medical professionals who cared for York throughout the years in Mississauga and to the wonderfully caring staff and volunteers at Sakura House Hospice in Woodstock, Ontario where he spent his last days.

In lieu of flowers, donations made in York’s memory to Sakura House would appreciated.
