Obituary

WOYTIUK, Todd P. - It is with love and sorrow that we let you go. On Wednesday
February 6th, 2019 in his 59th year. Todd leaves behind the love of his life, Jan
Hauck. Loving step father to Stephanie and her husband Brandon Homewood and of
course his cherished granddaughter, Hailey. Dear brother to Kim and Jan Woytiuk who
will miss him more than words can express. Todd was predeceased by his parents Anne
and Walter Woytiuk. Todd was originally from Windsor where he worked for Canada Customs before joining the Public Service Alliance of Canada as a Regional Representative.
The Muskoka cottage was his sanctuary, where he enjoyed BBQing, boating,
swimming, snowmobiling, and most recently RTVing. Todd was an amazing
friend to many, and he spent countless hours fighting for the rights of others. Something
you may not know about Todd is that he was definitely “The King of Armchair
Shopping”. Celebrations of Life will be held in memory of Todd. There is no expectation to attend both, but rather the one that suits your schedule best.

Locations:
Sunday February 24th, 1-4 pm, Caboto Club,
Verdi Hall, 2175 Parent Avenue, Windsor

Sunday March 3rd, 1-4 pm, Windermere
Manner, Grand Hall, 200 Collip Circle,
London

In true Todd fashion, he didn’t want donations. His wishes were for you to spend
time with your loved ones making new memories and doing something that you
have been meaning to do, but never seem to get around to it. Take a day trip, see your
friends, go dancing, it matters not, as long as the contribution is deposited in the bank of
life. Time waits for no one and life is short. If you absolutely must make a donation,
your local United Way is preferred, as Todd had a strong connection to their cause and may be arranged through the Brock and Visser Funeral Home, Woodstock, 519-539-0004.

Today would have been Todd's 59th Birthday. Todd was a "Gentle Warrior" and I have known him for over 25 years, first as a PSAC member, then as a mentor and colleague. He was by far the single most generous person I know. Given the nature of the work that we do in the union, always challenging employers, or fighting the current government of the day, what was always so amazing about Todd, is that he would never get angry. I would always have to look directly into his face to know if he was ever upset about anything and the only way that I could tell, would be if he raised his left eyebrow instead of his right eyebrow. Then I knew he was concerned or upset about something. If you weren't paying attention....it was very easy to miss the clue. Todd made it easy to do often difficult work because he was able to break down complicated issues into seemingly simple parts, step by step. He was always thoughtful and great at figuring out strategies with me to solve problems. Whenever we were working on a difficult problem or project, he would always remind me, "we have our own little slice of heaven right here". And he was right. As a union rep, Todd had one main goal - to build and foster relationships with the members of the PSAC and to serve them to the very best of his ability. One of his favorite things to do was...go for lunch! He loved to call up members or activist and make a lunch date - and he would always pay. Any member who Todd had ever worked with would describe him as "the most knowledgeable person I know". The results of Todd's hard work and efforts can be found in the words of many collective agreements or in the results of many WSIB awards which he won for members injured on the job. There are countless people today who were influenced by Todd and whose lives, and families, are much improved because of the work he did for them, or because of the advice he gave them. Todd was also very involved with his community, the United Way, the District Labour Councils, and his own union CULE. He would say "I Love CULE". I would say "Todd you can't LOVE CULE", it's a union not a person. He'd just look at me and say again, "I LOVE CULE". Gently guiding, helping and serving others was who Todd was. He fought the cancers over and over too and each time he would say "I'll be back to work soon"... and he always was. Even when he went off work on disability, since Aug, 2017, he was still answering emails from members literally days before he passed away. Todd and I went for lunch with a mutual friend just a few days before he went into hospital, and we talked for several hours and got caught up on all the events and issues of the day, as we always did. At the end of the meal we did our usual dance and Todd responded as he always did "you paid last time". I would argue that he had paid last time. This time he let me win. What I have learned from Todd is to: - take time out to eat, which I often forget to do - spend time with people who are important to me, my family and my friends - and what it means to be a "Gentle Warrior" I will miss my friend and colleague terribly...his spirit of generosity, his thoughtful advice, his immense wealth of knowledge... but most of all, I wish we could do lunch one more time, because I owe him so many lunches!! Farewell my friend, our "Gentle Warrior", rest in peace.
